Here are some post-care recommendations to maintain your new smile –
1. Avoid staining for 48 hours – Tea, coffee, smoking, red wine can all contribute to staining your new smile.
2. Keep up your oral hygiene – Brushing your teeth regularly and maintaining good oral health will ensure that your composite to stay clean and untainted for even longer.
3. Avoid biting nails or chewing – Bonding is extremely strong but not as strong as a natural tooth, so try not to damage on items that are not food.
The composite bond procedure is completed within one appointment. Prior to the appointment, we will always book a consultation, and most patients will organise a post-procedure review appointment to ensure that they are completely satisfied with the treatment.
In most cases composite is applied with no obvious drilling to the natural teeth. For any cases that require a tooth adjustment, you will be advised during your consultation appointment.
The tooth surface is thoroughly cleaned and then prepared with a gel that roughens the surface microscopically. The putty like composite resin material is then applied using special instruments and brushes to sculpt to the desired shape, often in several layers. Using a special light, the material is then hardened. Further layers can then be added accordingly. The procedure is then completed with smoothing of the tooth surface and polishing.
